The 49ers cut ties with Bruce Miller earlier this week after a report surfaced that he was arrested following an assault on a 70-year-old man and his son early Monday morning.

According to police, at 2:40 a.m.an intoxicated Miller tried to check into the Fisherman’s Wharf Marriott Hotel, but it was full.

The couple’s adult son was staying in the room next door and when he tried to tell Miller he had the wrong room, the 250-pound (113-kg) fullback rushed him, police said.

Football player Bruce Miller has been charged after he allegedly punched a 70-year-old hotel guest and his son. Miller now faces several felonies, including assault and elder abuse. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for injuries.

There seems to be little doubt of Miller’s involvement in the attack, and while the facts of the case will be borne out in court, Miller could very well be facing jail time.

Miller was released on $178,000 bail.

A call to the San Francisco Police Department was not returned. After being told there were no vacancies, Miller proceeded up to a room being occupied by an elderly couple.

The story was initially reported by KTVU.

Miller also faces a misdemeanor battery charge. He attended a 16-week domestic violence counseling course. He played in 77 games with the 49ers, with 47 starts at fullback, after being a seventh-round draft pick in 2011 out of Central Florida. The 49ers could promote Je’Ron Hamm, whom they signed to the practice squad Sunday after releasing him a day earlier.
