Protesters to target Chicago shopping area on Black Friday
Several hundred protesters again amassed on the streets of Chicago in response to the city’s release of a squad-car video showing a white police officer fatally shooting a black teenager.

At one point, a group of protesters seemed to form a circle and chanted names of those they said were also victims of police violence in Chicago.

“Like many Americans, I was deeply disturbed by the footage of the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald”, Obama said.
Footage from the dash-cam video was released more than a year after the October 2014 shooting.
Meanwhile, the fallout from the video has resulted in calls for a deeper investigation into the Chicago Police Department.
McDonald, whose name demonstrators are shouting as they march the streets and plan to shut down the city¿s glitziest shopping corridor on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, lived a troubled life full of disadvantages and at least one previous brush with the law. During the conference, Jackson asked for an investigation into the video and the timing of its release.
Clinton, who made the comments Wednesday in an emailed statement, added that police officers across the country are doing their duty honourably “without resorting to unnecessary force”. White Officer Jason Van Dyke, who shot a black teenager 16 times past year, was charged with first-degree murder Tuesday, hours before the ci…
“The video that was released to the public [on Tuesday] was the most complete video that we had”, Quinn said. The Tribune reported that the Chicago Police Department requires its officers to use in-car video if the vehicle is equipped with it.
Shot from an approaching police vehicle, it shows McDonald run down the middle of the street towards a cruiser, hitch up his trousers and then start to walk away from Van Dyke and his partner.
The problems are not about tactics and training; they’re about a culture of impunity, including a police union that routinely covers for even the dirtiest cops.
Police officer Jason Van Dyke began his incarceration under protective custody at a hospital facility segregated from the general population of Cook County Jail, the county sheriff’s office said. McDonald, who authorities allege was carrying a three-inch knife and was suspected of breaking into cars, spins around and falls to the pavement as Van Dyke keeps shooting.
Alvarez said she had planned to wait until a federal investigation was complete but chose to press charges against Van Dyke prior to the video’s release “in the interest of public safety”. The other patrol cars, including Van Dyke’s, were positioned facing away from the action.
But she also defended the 13 months it took to charge Van Dyke, insisting she made a decision “weeks ago” to charge him and the video’s ordered release did not influence that. “I’d rather take my time and get it right than rush to judgment and get it wrong”.
“And typically, these cases end up in the police department’s hands”.
Van Dyke’s attorney, Daniel Herbert, said his client feared for his life in his encounter with McDonald, who was armed with a knife, and that the one video doesn’t tell the full story of events leading up to the shooting.
