Protesting MCD workers block NH-24
The workers staged a protest in Delhi’s Patparganj and halt traffic on the National Highway 24 area against non-payment of dues. They have been joined by teachers, doctors, nurses and contractors of the civic bodies.

Protestors dumped garbage on roads and set ablaze tyres at various places.
Accusing the Arvind Kejriwal government of not releasing the money due to it, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Tuesday told the Delhi High Court that it has no money to pay sanitation workers’ January and February salaries.
“The state government should release funds to the MCD to pay the workers their over-due salaries, so that they end their indefinite strike”, asserted Vinod Sehrawat, District President BJP North West.
Jain questioned the role of councillors and mayors of the BJP-ruled corporations in the protests.
Kejriwal also demanded a CBI inquiry into “massive scams” in three municipal corporations of Delhi, ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“It seems like politics now”. The traffic was thrown out of gear when the municipal corporation employees took out a “begging bowl march” to protest.
The association has alleged in its application that the corporations are “giving lame, false and misleading excuses” for non-payment of salary as the MCD managements were “working for their personal gain and political motives”. “What explains the presence of mayors and BJP councillors in the protests otherwise?”
While the civic bodies and the AAP government are at loggerheads, the DDA has said that at present it has no liability pending towards the three municipal corporations in the form of service charges or property tax.
“For the current financial year, in case of North Delhi Municipal Corporation and East Delhi Municipal Corporation, the principal amount of outstanding loans and interest were also not recovered by Delhi govt keeping in view the situation”.

“The Lt Governor in his letter written to Kejriwal and Sisodia said that there is presently a serious situation in Delhi and, if the strike continues, the law and order situation may deteriorate in Delhi”, sources said. Their workers are not part of the ongoing stir.
