Willingham and others called for the recall of Persky because of the six-month jail term he sentenced Brock Turner to for a sexual assault conviction.

After all, Judge Persky handed down a six-month sentence to Brock Turner after his victim read a pretty damning statement, in which she reminded everyone in the courtroom that while he will only serve a short time in jail, she has to live with what he did for the rest of her life.
Turner, who kept his head down, was carrying a large packet of hate mail sent to him during his incarceration.
Brock Turner walked out of the main entrance of the Santa Clara County jail and got into a white SUV. He plans to head to his native OH to live with his parents. Turner will be on probation for three years.
A Bureau of Justice Statistics report released earlier this year said that nearly one in four female college students face sexual assault.
Persky had been up for reelection, but no challengers filed to run against him in March, months before Turner’s sentencing was revealed. “I thought maybe I had fallen and was in an admin office on campus” she said. “Basically, they’re at risk while they’re here”, Smith said. Brown hasn’t said whether he will sign. In the January 18, 2015 encounter, he was seen thrusting his hips atop an unconscious, partially clothed woman outside the Kappa Alpha fraternity. The case sparked outrage and calls for Persky’s removal that still haven’t quieted – prosecutors requested a six-year sentence, while the maximum would have been 14 years. It was held across the street from the San Jose jail.
Downey was sentenced to three years in jail for drug-related charges in the ’90s and spent a reasonable amount of time in and out of jail between 1996 and 2001 for drug use and possession.
Following a backlash, Judge Persky voluntarily removed himself from hearing criminal cases, starting next week.
Turner is believed to have stayed at a hotel with his mother in Mountain View, California, Friday night.
“To have somebody like that in our neighborhood, who isn’t very friendly to young women – I just have an issue with”, one local resident told ABC News.
This week, the judge found herself on the opposite side of the bench as she received her own harsh scolding from Florida’s chief justice.
“Being on probation or parole is not like being free in society”, said Jason Rydberg, a University of Massachusetts Lowell associate professor whose research focuses on prisoner re-entry, sex offenders and community supervision. Turner must register as a sex offender when he gets to Ohio.
Turner, whose family lives in Sugarcreek Twp., has five days to report to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office to register as a Tier III Sex offender.
He’ll also be required to meet with a state officer for his three-year probation.

After Turner registers as a sex offender, the sheriff’s department will send postcards to Turner’s neighbors, alerting them to his nearby residence.
