The acceptance of the invitation comes days after veteran Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani refused to attend the Eid Milan party in protest against Pakistan for “ignoring the Kashmir cause”. He said the trouble-makers were chased away by the personnel of the law enforcing agencies.

Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and senior executive member Mansoor Abbas Ansari have accepted the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi’s invitation for Eid Milan on July 21.

Similar incidents of stone-pelting were also witnessed in Kothibagh area of the city but the police managed to restore order by chasing them away, the officer said.

” “Hurriyat has always advocated for dialogue between India and Pakistan to resolve Kashmir and other issues but any dialogue between the two countries which ignored Kashmir dispute has never succeeded in the past and would never succeed in the future as well””.

“The Indian leadership should take practical measures to resolve this issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir”, Mirwaiz said in his address at Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar.

However, Hardline Hurriyat Conference has decided to boycott the event to protest non-inclusion of Kashmir in the talks that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif held in Ufa in Russian Federation.
