PS4 4.0 firmware update for backwards compatibility

Meanwhile, Paris-HQ’d Ubisoft recently announced Far Cry Primal for Feb 2016, so that could well be given a fresh airing; fans will be looking for more on the LittleBigPlanet studio’s next game, Dreams, a release date for ambitious space explorer No Man’s Sky, a final name for Nier: New Project and possible glimpses of The Last Guardian or even Gran Turismo 7.

Sony is considering adding several major new features to the next firmware update for the PlayStation 4.

Spotted by Gamepur, the invite appears to be for the PS4 firmware update 4.0. Among the features included in the survey are renaming options for the PSN name, custom backgrounds, options for folders and more.

Perhaps most interesting are the questions asking about more PS1 and PS2 classics.

It seems like good days are ahead for PlayStation community because firms have used surveys as a mean to gauge the interest of gamers in certain features or games, and this method have been proven effective when it comes to firms delivering future content for consoles.

In terms of new IPs, or unannounced sequels to existing franchises – what would you love to be shown on stage in Paris for the very first time?

Most of the survey suggestions are fairly small additions, and it also goes on to ask the respondents when they expect “PlayStation to release the next big system software update (system software 4.0) with new features”.

Tomorrow Sony is holding a press conference at Paris Games Week. According to Push Square, Sony has confirmed that the lineup of free games will be confirmed come the middle of the week. Fans have previously expressed their disappointment in the new lineup, stating that it has been a while since they have seen a decent title be offered as part of the PS Plus lineup. This could be seen as a response to Microsoft’s upcoming backwards compatibility program for the Xbox One, though interestingly, the poll suggests that Sony has no interest in offering a backwards compatibility program of its own, which does match their previous statements.
