PS4 Has Sold Over 40 Million Worldwide
It’s now the fastest selling PlayStation of all time, even besting the pace of the record setting PlayStation 2, which is the top selling game console of all time with over 155 million units sold to date.

Sony, who posted the news on its website, is largely crediting the PS4’s success due to it “offering users a vast array of exciting software titles from third-party developers and publishers as well as from SIE Worldwide Studios (SIE WWS)”. The system has now sold-through (that’s sold to consumers!) more than 40 million units.
The console passed the 40m milestone this week, Sony reported today. The PS4 came out in North America on November 13, 2013, a week ahead of the Xbox One’s launch.
More impressive is the company’s software sales, just falling short of 271-million copies through May 2016.
The recent release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, along with other upcoming exclusives like Horizon: Zero Dawn and No Man’s Sky (console exclusive) will no doubt ensure its continued popularity. PlayStation 4 sales are outpacing all its predecessors, including the best-selling second-generation model. For the current fiscal year that started in April, the unit is projected to contribute an operating profit of Yen135 billion ($1.22 billion), almost half of the company’s overall expected operating profit of Yen300 billion.

Sony’s slate of games for 2016 includes “No Man’s Sky”, “The Last Guardian”, “Horizon: Zero Dawn”, “Gran Turismo Sport” and “Paragon”. According to rumors, the new “PS4 Neo” will feature 4K graphics and more powerful components to better support VR gaming.
