PS4 Neo could do more than improve visuals for No Man’s Sky

Because No Man’s Sky’s enormous universe is procedurally generated, “more powerful hardware doesn’t just mean upgraded textures or a higher framerate”. (Follow-up tweets from Murray early this morning confirm he never expected this to happen so quickly and suggest that server overload might be to blame for the missed multiplayer connection).

A “No Man’s Sky” spaceship uses its hyperdrive feature to jump between worlds. However, the game did not entirely lived up to the expectations, as players can’t seem to see each other in the game. The two hopped online, on streams, and went to the same spot on the same planet, only to find out they couldn’t see each other.

Murray cites the importance of players having a good first impression and numerous tweaks do appear to address some of the issues raised by those with access to early copies of the game.

According to the game’s lead developer Sean Murray, we should not go into No Man’s Sky expecting it to be a multiplayer game at all. Murray also mentioned that although the game will carry on to function without the patch, players will “not be able to experience the new content” if they do not install the update.

The first No Man’s Sky patch bring a host of changes, and those playing early may want to delete their saves so they don’t miss out. For one thing, it’s a lot more than what we’ve been looking forward to so far.

He added later that “it is a testament to how fantastic our network coders are that Discoveries are still working at all”, suggesting further that online features are severely hampered.

Recall that No Man’s Sky will also be marketed on 12 August 2016 PC.

In a 2014 interview with Game Informer, Hello Games’ Sean Murray said that “you can see other characters, and they can see you”.

This means if you land on a planet that no one else in the game has you can rename it and anyone who visits it will know you’re the one who found it.
