PS4 Pro Looks Like a Big Mistake

The only drawback found in the console is that it doesn’t have a 4K bluray player integrated.

At an event held in NY on the 7th September, Sony unveiled two new versions of the PlayStation 4. Furthermore, all the PS4 game system employs the same user interface and shares the same online community for multiplayer gaming and network services. While being the lower price of $299 for the 500GB model, it is missing something that I felt is going to hurt a lot of people: the optical audio jack.

Despite what was a successful press conference on paper, things quickly went south for Sony following the PlayStation meeting. But it is 5:1 in favor of streaming video versus packaged media.

Microsoft’s finally said what we’ve been waiting for: Project Scorpio will render games in native 3840 x 2160 4K resolution unlike Sony’s new PlayStation 4 Pro, which uses Checkerboard Upscaling techniques to upscale base 1080p resolution to 4K. Or they could be gambling on other features.

One of the criticisms for the PS4 Pro is its lack of an Ultra HD Blu-ray player compared to the new Xbox One S. however, it seems that there’s a reason for this. Everyone’s favorite plucky plumber is finally making his way to mobile devices, while the hot console gets a refresh and new peripherals for an even more immersive gaming experience that promises to end your social life (you see all your friends on Facebook, anyway). PS4 Slim console will cost $300 Dollars and will be 30% times smaller than its predecessor. Now it’s a luxury for Xbox One Slim and PC owners at the moment as we still wait for the PlayStation 4 to release. Microsoft, which released its Xbox One S a month ago and is now working on the more powerful Project Scorpio, wasn’t too impressed.

There’s also the obstacle of getting 4K monitors into the people’s homes. PS4 Pro will hit shelves on November 10 and be priced at $400. Developers will decide on a title-by-title basis how their games will use the extra power afforded by PS4 Pro.

If you don’t already own a PS4 then the recent price drop of the standard model could make it a more tempting offer, considering it is still a brilliant console and runs all the games both now available and to be released for the foreseeable future.

Also not disclosed was a list of which titles will be available in native 4K and HDR at launch.
