PS4 refresh still arriving this year despite E3 no-show

Perhaps in a hint at Sony’s own plans, after Microsoft announced its own mid-gen console upgrade, Project Scorpio, Sony’s Andrew House said the move surprised him, pointing out that “there’s a much heavier emphasis on immediate gratification [these days] than there was”. This Vega tech would likely deliver between 56 and 60 compute units (the original Xbox One had 12 compute units), running at between 800 and 850Mhz. Microsoft also debuted the Xbox One S slim line consoles at the show, but as with the now available Xbox One editions, the S will not be ideal for VR experiences even though it does feature upgraded processing power and 4K video output capabilities.

Yes, Sony and Microsoft are both readying new games machines for later this year, with Microsoft’s Xbox One S announced at E3 last week for an August release and Sony’s PlayStation 4K (or 4.5, or Neo) expected to follow soon after.

This year, Sony had a better overall show – presenting what looks to be a strong software lineup alongside its virtual reality platform, but Microsoft might have given focus to a strategy that better represents the future of gaming.

Developers of video games are also prohibited to release titles for the PS4 Neo, according to House.

Instead he insisted more details on the recently confirmed Neo will only be revealed once there are enough compelling features to make the console appealing.

The highlight of the upgraded Xbox One is that it is 40 percent more compact and will have a hard drive capacity of up to 2 TB.

The Xbox 360 was a roaring success, but the Xbox One had some stumbles out the gate – and the PS4 took a commanding and ever-growing lead. All we know is that Microsoft got themselves a whole year’s exclusivity.

Microsoft recently launched a more compact version of the current Xbox One called the Xbox One S, which will reportedly be available this August.

Noot only are you getting a great gaming console, you’re also getting a 4K Blu-ray player for less than those from the likes of Samsung or Panasonic. Just a week ago, it was being rumored that it had already struck a deal to make its device compatible with the Oculus Rift, but rumors since have suggested that the Xbox Scorpio could be compatible with both the Rift and the HTC Vive. Wait ’til August for it if you can! But it could be worth holding off, especially if you have a 4K TV. During this analysis he pointed out that there is a strong chance of the PS Neo launching first and before the turn of the year.

New consoles are coming but it's the games that shine at the annual E3 2016 gaming conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center
