PS4 System Update drops later today, adding HDR
Sony has pushed out its latest software for the PlayStation 4 so you should find it waiting for you, either to download or already installed if you have updates set to do so automatically. Sony added several features that will support the PS4 Pro’s ability to output high-resolution content, enabling (on the PS4 Pro) 1080p at 30 frames per second broadcasting on Twitch, 1080p 30/60fps live broadcasting on YouTube, 1080p streaming for Share Play, and 1080p streaming for Remote Play on PC/Mac compatible Xperia devices.

Sony’s new HDR feature won’t do much without an HDR-enabled television, of course. With this new feature, players can now organize and arrange their games and apps neatly and access them more conveniently. The 4.00 update also does some housekeeping in preparation for the recently announced PlayStation 4 Pro console. After updating users will see an HDR settings in the Video Output Settings.
The update also comes with features for the as-yet unreleased PS4 Pro, specifically in regards to streaming content. The new update also rolls out new Spotify integration, LAN data migration transfer, interface tweaks, and improvements to the PlayStation 4 Pro’s streaming capabilities. Bringing all PlayStation 4 consoles up to snuff for HDR sounds impressive-we haven’t seen its quality yet-and we’re curious to see if Microsoft can (or will) try something similar for its consoles. The update brings a new UI system, Folder organisation, updates to the Share and the Quick Menu and more. The left column in the menu includes the new Activity Feed. The revamped one took only a portion of the screen with shortcut icon apps which can be accessed quickly. Gamers will be able to transfer games, user info, and saved data over a local network instead of having to backup to the cloud first.
