PS4 Update 4.00 Now Available; Here’s What Has Changed
Prior to the PS4 Slim and Pro being revealed, Microsoft launched the Xbox One S (which sold insanely well). Sure, it has seen improvements over the years thanks to some updates, but it was still somewhat clunky to navigate through.

While it’s great news that this update allows developers to patch in HDR, it’s also not a feature of any now available PS4 games or media apps. I tried it out for myself and was pleased by what it had to offer. The “PS4 Slim”, as it’s become known, goes on sale on September 16, priced at £259 / $299 / AU$599.99 for the 500GB model.
What’s New tab on the dashboard has been reworked.
The slim PS4 has lots of nice design touches dotted around its chassis though.
The Quick Menu has been completely overhauled.
From the popped up Quick menu, the user is allowed to customize the information displayed on it. Communities let players group up with strangers that share their gaming interests.
The 4.00 patch is the latest to Orbis OS, the PS4’s native operating system since the 3.55 update It merely weighed 300MB and only improved the quality of the system performance. In all key areas it matches the original PlayStation 4 console, and at many points outperforms it too.
Now, you can take groups of app tiles and lump them together into organized folders.
Not only searching, but the user can also even sort the content either according to the purchase date or according to the installed status.
With over 6000 trophies, including 60 Platinum trophies, it’s safe to say that I’m a huge fan of these achievements.
The redesigned Content Info Screen, accessed by pressing down on a game tile while on the home screen, allow players to view a game’s Overview, Trending media, Friends and Communities, Activities and related PlayStation Store content.
Sony has launched Firmware 4.00 for existing PlayStation 4 and upcoming PlayStation 4 Pro consoles, adding high-dynamic range (HDR) output capabilities to the consoles for the first time. And there’s also the new Remote Play features that adds 1080p and 60fps options for those playing on PC and Mac. However, Twitch reduced the stream framerate to 30 frames per second (fps).
The minor revision of the DualShock 4 is also a nice one to see.
