PS4 will be able to go HDR even without Pro

Add to that improvements to the upcoming PlayStation VR headsets and it’s clear Sony are looking to make the next gaming leap this winter.

The PlayStation Pro will cost $400 and go on sale November 10, in time for the holiday shopping season. At the same time, Sony executives stressed that gamers will not need an HDR or 4K TV to be able to play games on the console. Although many developers will bring graphical improvements to their games, some PS4 games won’t support the PS4 Pro in a meaningful way.

The Xbox Project Scorpio – which Microsoft claims to be the most powerful gaming console ever – will arrive in the second half of 2017.

So far as the PS4 Pro enhancements over the standard PS4 console are concerned, the new console mainly enables two noteworthy new features — 4K and HDR.

The price of the new improved PlayStation 4 will be $300, which is $50 less than the previous version. This allows players to view crisper visuals, and brighter colors than what the standard PlayStation 4 previously allowed on HDR/4K displays. This PlayStation model will be 25% lighter than the original and 16% lighter than the current model. Other new accessories include new PS4 headphones and controllers. The PlayStation 4 Pro will deliver a GPU that’s twice as powerful as the existing PS4, and PS4 Pro will be packed with a 1 terabyte hard drive, according to Tech Crunch.

Gamers will only be able to experience 4k graphics though if they own a 4k television.

Additionally, the company unveiled a slimmer, lighter and more energy efficient version of its PlayStation 4 Console, which will come out September 15 and will cost $299.
