PSG suspends Aurier over team insults before Chelsea game

PSG boss Laurent Blanc, pictured, was unimpressed by Serge Aurier’s comments over the weekend.

The veteran Chelsea leader will be sorely missed in the last 16, first leg at the Parc des Princes and has not even travelled to Paris with the squad.

“This video, shot in a private environment, clearly contains some inadmissible words coming from a Paris Saint-Germain player against some of his teammates and particularly the coach Laurent Blanc”, PSG said in a statement on Sunday.

“How did I react?” I feel bad as I brought this boy two years ago.

“We think whatever we like, this is a democracy and we are free to think about things, have our opinions”.

“Playing Chelsea is a magnificent draw because I think we already know this team quite well”.

But a visibly irritated Blanc continued, although he declined to address a question on his authority over the dressing room. He should be preparing for a last-16 Champions League tie. The decision was made to leave him at home.

PSG have also confirmed that Aurier will be disciplined by the club, for his scathing remarks on players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Angel Di Maria and Salvatore Sirigu.

Blanc promised to address Aurier directly. I think the best bet here is to but money on both teams to score since I am expecting a 2-1 or 3-2 win for PSG and we get paid if that happens. We’re mentally stronger and that’s very important for the Champions League.

“Since the very start I felt it was possible, I felt in step with the club and the city”.

While PSG sit 24 points clear in Ligue 1, Chelsea’s meagre title defence sees them languish in 12th, although Verratti remains wary of Guus Hiddink’s side.

Paris: Italian midfielder Marco Verratti on Monday extended his Paris Saint-Germain contract, dealing a blow to Europe’s top clubs who had been linked to a move. And, for me, winning the Champions League is the main objective.

“Chelsea are having a hard time in the Premier League”, Verratti added.
