Besides opening his 65,000-square-foot Paisley Park recording complex in 1987 in Chanhassen, a town of almost 23,000 people about 20 miles southwest of Minneapolis, Prince also owned a lot of undeveloped land in the suburb, Mayor Denny Laufenburger said.

But she added: “An announcement will be made at a future date for a musical celebration”.

Officials with the medical examiner’s office say gathering the results of the autopsy will take several days – and a full toxicology scan could take weeks.

Police was summoned to the late legend’s Paisley Park estate during the early hours of Thursday, after which paramedics tried to perform CPR but were unable to revive him, authorities told CNN.

The chief medical examiner for the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office completed an autopsy on Prince, and his body was released to his family.

Fans camped out by Paisley Park, the artist’s home and recording studio, leaving bouquets of flowers and signs.

“As far as hometown musicians who still live here, that puts Prince at No. 1”, he said.

Prince’s death at 57 sent shock waves through the music world and spurred tributes and memorials across the country. On Thursday, a report released by TMZ said that Prince was treated for an opiate overdose. The night after that, Prince hosted a dance party at Paisley Park, where some fans said he looked fine and seemed irked by reports of an illness.

He said it was “still under investigation” whether foul play was involved.

The English pop singer Ellie Goulding sang “When Doves Cry” at Coachella while Mavis Staples, the 76-year-old R&B icon once signed to Prince’s label, broke down with emotion before offering a rendition of “Purple Rain”.

“I said, Prince, you’ll be missed”.

Olson, the sheriff, and a medical examiner’s office spokeswoman declined Friday to say whether prescription drugs were taken from the home after his death.

“We have no reason at this point to believe this was a suicide, but it’s early on in the investigation, and we will continue to investigate”, Olson said.

Prince also became the sudden star of the second weekend of Coachella, the premier music festival which takes place in the California desert. They found him unresponsive in an elevator and called 911 at 9:43 a.m., Sheriff Olson said.

Despite problems with his hip and knee, Prince “kept doing it because he loved doing it and it was something no one was doing”, she said. “It could be days, depending on the type of test, and most likely weeks to have the complete set of results available to us”, Martha Weaver said.
