This week just keeps getting better for pitcher Jose De Leon, who beat San Diego in his major league debut Sunday and was regaled with stories of the most famous player from his native Puerto Rico by legendary broadcaster Vin Scully on Wednesday, the day Major League Baseball honored Roberto Clemente.

“All of those guys have given us quality starts, good outings and competing out there, and they’re really growing”, manager Dave Roberts said. “This is definitely a crash course, nice emergence in the big leagues”.

For the first time in Dodgers franchise history, rookie starters claimed wins in four consecutive contests, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Ray (7-13) gave up three runs and two hits in six innings.

Stewart (1-2) anchored a string of four consecutive rookie starting pitchers this week, the second time the Dodgers have done so this season and the first time since September 8-10 in 1952.

Stewart (1-2) allowed one run and five hits in five innings, struck out one and walked two.

Corey Seager: 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.

Dodgers: RHP Brock Stewart (0-2, 7.94) last pitched for the Dodgers on August 28 against the Cubs, allowing two hits in five scoreless innings while not factoring in the 1-0 victory.

With two outs in the first, Paul Goldschmidt doubled home A.J. Pollock, who walked, for a 1-0 Arizona edge. The Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 and take a 5 game lead for first place over the Giants.

Kenley Jansen retired the Diamondbacks in order in the ninth inning to earn his 43rd save of the season, one shy of his career high, set in 2014. A wild pitch advanced Seager to third base, and he scored on a sacrifice fly from Puig.

Clinging to a 3-1 lead, the Dodgers’ bullpen squelched threats in the seventh and eighth innings. Reliever Jesse Chavez gave up consecutive singles to pinch-hitter Phil Gosselin and Jean Segura before retiring the next two batters.

Stewart (1-2) allowed one run and five hits in five innings, struck out one and walked two. He intentionally walked Goldschmidt and then struck out pinch-hitter Rickie Weeks Jr.to end the inning. But with the game on the line, we thought that was our chance. “We always trust Rickie, he gives us good at-bats”.

In the eighth, Pedro Baez entered and struck out Yasmany Tomas and Chris Hermann before walking pinch-hitter Mitch Haniger.

D-backs: C Welington Castillo was scratched shortly before the game with tightness in his shoulder and replaced by Hermann. He will return to Los Angeles for further evaluation.

It was Puig’s second home run in four games – three starts – since returning from Triple-A Oklahoma City, where it was still felt. He tossed 33 pitches and gave up a three-run homer, walked two and hit two batters.

The Snakes outhit the Dodgers seven-to-four but were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base as they were swept by the Dodgers for the first time since June 8-10 of 2015. He struck out two and walked none in his second start since returning from the minors on August 31. Kershaw is 5-3 with a 2.40 ERA in 10 career starts against the Marlins.
