Pulis defends Gardner’s Lovren challenge

Jurgen Klopp has taken responsibility for Simon Mignolet’s blunderings in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

The Liverpool goalkeeper was culpable for West Brom’s equalising goal on Sunday afternoon, failing to successfully claim a corner allowing Dawson to poke the ball home at Anfield.

Klopp admitted that his Liverpool side struggled to cope with West Brom’s willingness to defend in numbers and exploit set-piece situations but believes today’s draw could prove to be a turning point in the season.

“It’s really hard in England because there is no-one to protect goalkeepers”.

After the game, Klopp and his players joined together in a line to salute the Kop and thank supporters for their backing.

“Sometimes a point deserved in the right way is more important”. We always watch players on video but if we take them in winter, in summer or never I don’t know at this moment. But I want him to come out because he can help.

This is not to excuse Klopp’s confrontation with his opposite number, even with animosity building between the Liverpool manager and Pulis long before Dejan Lovren was taken off with a knee injury inflicted by Craig Gardner.

“He (Gardner) played the ball, a millisecond before he hit Dejan”, he added.

But Simon Mignolet’s error gifted a goal to Albion, who were later left furious when a delayed offside flag prevented Olsson giving them the lead. After Jordan Henderson headed Liverpool into the lead midway through the first half, a Simon Mignolet howler gave West Brom hope that this could be their day.

“Maybe the crowd was disappointed but they didn’t let us feel it. We were all in the game, we were all concentrated and we all wanted to get one point at the end”.

Asked by the Liverpool Echo to describe the world shared between the two, Klopp said: “I can’t remember, I haven’t the biggest talent to remember things like this”.

“It was not a friendly game”, said Klopp. “He is animated. I have been animated all my life on the bench”.

Pulis also brushed aside Gardner’s tackle on Lovren.

‘The others? Skrtel has gone right over the ball, luckily Salomon moved out of the way.

Pulis queried how the officials came to the decision to disallow a goal by the offside Jonas Olsson on the stroke of half-time. What do we possibly gain by viewing an awkward handshake between two managers that have just tried everything possible to defeat one another over 90 plus minutes?
