“He wasn’t one of my main targets, there are no hints about it”, he said.

Williams issued a statement after the transfer deadline, claiming West Brom had met Pulis’s demands by signing five players. “He was available at the end and we thought he would be a good acquisition”.

“The five players John (Williams) said I was happy with, they were not the marquee signings I wanted to bring in”.

He was the only striker Albion signed in a frustrating transfer window, and when Pulis was asked if the timing hinted at Robson-Kanu’s position on the wanted list he gave a candid response.

“But he’s a good player as well, he can join in, he’s a very good runner with the ball, he can take the ball through the pitch from deep positions”.

“I think it is a fearless decision for his career but hopefully a good one”, Howe said.

“But this club is very different to any other I’ve been at”.

Eddie Howe, meanwhile, has credited Pulis with having a telling influence on his career nearly 25 years after they first met at Bournemouth.

“I think there’s been enough said and nonsense spoken”.
