Mateen tells the negotiator, “They need to stop killing people”. “What am I to do here when my people are getting killed over there?”.
In this photo taken June 12, 2016, Orlando Police officers direct family members away from a shooting involving multiple fatalities at the Pulse Orlando nightclub in Orlando, Fla.
“In the 911 calls, Mateen said, “.I want to let you know I’m in Orlando and I did the shooting”.
Marco Rubio is asking the Federal Bureau of Investigation to share more information with local agencies offering assistance to victims of Orlando’s gay nightclub shooting, according to a letter released Tuesday. Throughout the calls, Mateen said he committed the attack “to stop the USA airstrikes” on Iraq and Syria.
“Tell me what you did, please”, the negotiator said. I completely get what you’re saying.
He accused the United States of collaborating with Russian Federation to kill Muslims, saying “The U.S.is collaborating with Russian Federation and they are killing innocent women and children, okay?”
Mateen, who said that Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev was his “homeboy”, claimed that he had a bomb-rigged vehicle outside the gay club, though no such explosives were found.
A police communications supervisor, though, recounted one of Mateen’s calls to an Orlando police official whose name is bleeped out at the beginning of the call when he identifies himself.
In the second negotiation call, Mateen tells the negotiator an airstrike that killed ISIS leader Abu Wahib was what “triggered” the attack.
When pressed for details, he claimed “If you bring the bomb dog they are not going to smell s**t”.
The negotiator asks Mateen for his name. “In Orlando”, he replies, then hangs up when the operator asks him for more details.
Negotiator: Well, I understand that, but the fact that you appreciate it or not doesn’t matter at this point. “They need to stop the USA air strikes, OK?.You have to tell the US government to stop bombing”.
The city of Orlando did not provide the audio recording of the conversation between Mateen and the negotiator.
A half hour into the worst mass shooting in modern USA history, the gunman called a 911 operator and claimed responsibility for the massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando.

Authorities did not release the names of those who called 911 or those who were mentioned as being inside the club.
