Pumped-up Payton coaches Saints to 49-21 rout of Rams

After struggling throughout the first half, the recent aggressiveness of the Saints’ defense showed up again in the second half.

How else to explain why Payton looked more animated than any fan in the Superdome while the offense he designed unleashed a relentless onslaught – trick plays and all – on Williams’ defense in New Orleans’ 49-21 rout of the Rams on Sunday?

Brees’ four scoring passes gave him 30 on the season, the ninth time in his career he has reached that mark in a season.

As it turned out, Los Angeles could have used Robinson in uniform.

The Rams’ Week 13 game will be on the road against the New England Patriots.

At that point, about the only thing that could have prevented the play from working were the Mercedes-Benz Superdome lights, which Hightower said briefly caused him to lose track of the ball. These guys are down there, they’re ready to play.

When Williams was asked Friday about his return to New Orleans, he said he’s “really looking forward to it”, adding that he’s “got a lot of great memories, a lot of good feelings, a lot of good people there that I still stay in contact with”.

The Rams attempted to shake up things with a new-look offensive line, as left tackle Greg Robinson was put on the inactive list.

The Rams had an excellent first half on offense but still went into the break trailing 28-21.

The Saints had 28 points and a 28-21 lead at the half.

But when Snead started to jog off the field because he did not expect to be in for a third-and-3 play from midfield with 10 minutes, 26 seconds left, Payton waved for Snead to turn around and return to the huddle.

“Listen, I’m not going to completely avoid the fact that Gregg Williams is their defensive coordinator and there’s a history there”, Brees said.

Ingram said he felt good and that his production stemmed in part from an entire offense playing with objective against Williams.

Dare I say it?

“I’ve still got a lot of respect for Gregg as a defensive coach,”.

Going into halftime, the Rams trailed by just a touchdown.

Local players to watch: Los Angeles – CB Troy Hill (Oregon). If I would have told you prior to the game that Brandin Cooks would not be targeted, much less catch a pass, would you have believed that the Saints would win by four touchdowns?

“He’s consistently inconsistent. And there’s been games where he’s graded out well. Collectively, this might’ve been the worst game of our careers”. “And when you’re a left tackle, you’re exposed”. New Orleans’ defensive line was able to keep a fair amount of pressure on Goff during his second National Football League start and also managed to pick off Goff on an attempt over the middle to Rams receiver Kenny Britt.

Rams Coach Jeff Fisher said the game came down to the Rams’ inability to get the ball out of the Saints’ hands.
