“We were hit by a burst of gunfire suddenly. I was unwell but I was in touch with them every 10-15 minutes”, said Badal.
The attackers reportedly opened fire on a bus and hijacked a vehicle before storming the police station. Gurdaspur also borders Jammu and Kashmir.
The Press Trust of India news agency said five people have been killed in the attack, but officials could not immediately confirm that.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu also attended the meeting. No details were available. “This will help in better coordination of anti-terror efforts”, Abdullah said.
Terrorists attacked barracks of Indian Police commandos.
“We want peace with Pakistan, but not at the cost of national honour”, he said.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh said security forces had been sent to the spot. Indian parliamentarians claimed that Pakistan was trying to destabilize India by sending terrorists into valley as well as in settle areas.
According to police, the attack began at about 5:00am when the gunmen first targeted a roadside eatery and took off in a vehicle after killing a person who was sleeping near Dinanagar bypass.
The militants, believed to be four in numbers have taken over the police station from where they have engaged the personnel of Punjab Police and soldiers of Rajputana Rifles in a fierce gunfight.
It remained unclear who was behind the assault on the police station. Several others, including policemen, are injured in this attack.
