The U.S. team of David Boudia and Steele Johnson won the silver medal in men’s synchronized 10-meter diving on Monday in Rio.

With near flawless execution and synchronization scores over six dives, the world champions won by a wide margin.

But before he can medal individually, he’ll have to take on the synchronized event with partner Johnson.

Chen and Lin received a number of 10s from the judges in both execution and synchronization for their fifth dive – a forward 4.5 somersault that carried a degree of difficulty of 3.7 and earned them 106.56 points.

Boudia, also the reigning gold medalist in the men’s individual 10m platform, has the chance to become the first man to repeat as Olympic platform champion since Greg Louganis in 1984 and 1988.

Johnson, a 20-year-old Indianapolis native and Purdue University diver, is competing in his first Olympics.

Expectations will be high for Boudia, who is seven years older and six inches shorter than his partner, after he took bronze in the men’s synchronized 10m platform event in 2012. He will also be competing alongside Boudia in the 10-meter platform event.
