Georgia Tech AD Mike Bobinski is on the move. Tech school president G.P. “Bud” Peterson confirmed the transition Tuesday morning in a news release.
Previous to Georgia Tech, Bobinski served as athletic director at the University of Akron and Xavier University. “He has led with integrity, and we wish him the best”.
Burke, who has been Purdue’s athletic director since 1993, previously announced that he is retiring on June 30, 2017. In March, Bobinski fired basketball coach Brian Gregory and hired former Memphis coach Josh Pastner two weeks later.
Peterson said a search committee will be formed to find Bobinski’s replacement. He is a Notre Dame graduate (1979) and got his start in athletics administration there in 1984.

Purdue President Mitch Daniels says Bobinski’s pay hasn’t been finalized yet, but says it’ll be in the top 25-percent of all athletic directors nationwide. It also recorded outstanding scores in the Academic Progress Rate (APR), which provides a real-time NCAA metric to measure the success of institutions in moving student-athletes toward graduation.
