Police have found no signs of suicide or obvious trauma in the death of United States music superstar Prince, but it could take weeks before autopsy results reveal how the groundbreaking performer died, authorities say.
Olson said Prince was last seen alive Wednesday evening when he was dropped off at his residence.
The pop music icon was found collapsed and unresponsive in an elevator on the building’s first floor.
Prince’s cousin Chazz Smith said: “I can tell you this: What I know is that he was perfectly healthy”.
A post-mortem examination was carried out by the Midwest medical examiner on Friday (22Apr16), and shortly after its completion, officials in Carver County held their first press conference in the case. “Gathering the results will take several days and the results of a full toxicology scan could likely take weeks”, the statement said.
In 2009, Prince, a Jehovah’s Witness, told an interviewer with the Los Angeles Times that he didn’t do drugs “or I’d give you a joint” to share while they listened to music.
The late singer’s body was released to his family after the autopsy was completed, authorities confirmed Friday. An autopsy was done Friday but no cause has been announced.
Olson also said that no medical calls came from Paisley Park regarding Prince or within the past year.
Besides opening his 65,000-square-foot Paisley Park recording complex in 1987 in Chanhassen, a town of almost 23,000 people about 20 miles southwest of Minneapolis, Prince also owned a lot of undeveloped land in the suburb, Mayor Denny Laufenburger said.
“It’s better for us to do it well than to do it fast”, Olson said.
Sheriff Olson added there had been no previous calls to the county sheriff involving Prince at his estate in the past year. He was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m.
TMZ reported that Prince had been treated for an overdose of Percoset just six days before his death when his plane made an emergency landing to administer a “save shot”, which is said to counter the effects of opiates.
Mr Husney said he unaware whether Prince had been taking prescription drugs before his death but voiced concerns that users can accidentally overdose when they have not eaten. The sheriff reassured reporters that the investigation will be incredibly thorough. A group of Prince’s “most beloved” family, friends and musicians celebrated his life in a small, private service on Saturday after his remains were cremated.
