Purpose by Justin Bieber, Made in the AM by One Direction

And, most crucially, victims of that fever have grown up, meaning Bieber won’t have the chance to pad his bank account with lunchbox money anymore. At first listen, it seems that Bieber wins in that category. It’s such a simplistic tune but the straightforward melody combined with the sassy lyrics really get under your skin.

One Direction, on the other hand, are set to release their last album before embarking on a hiatus.

“It’s alien, it’s foreign, it doesn’t make any sense to us”.

Norwegian producer Axident has been responsible for a few accidents in his time. Still, even those songs have several redeeming qualities.

Bieber wants us to believe that this tour of repentance is the real deal, but he’s falling short.

Directioners have also warmly received Made In The AM, the group’s fifth album and first without former bandmate Zayn Malik. The video was shot in Iceland, where Bieber jumps into the frigid waters of the glacial lake called Jökulsárlón, wearing nothing but his Calvin Klein underwear. Bieber’s ad libs sound bloody great.

But in an interview with Britain’s New Musical Express, Bieber argued that he had been held to a different standard than other teen stars and said of his life now, “I’m struggling just to get through the days”.

Bieber’s newest album contains 13 songs, with the single “What Do You Mean?” included in the track list.

‘I just felt like I lost my place for a while, ‘ he explained, ‘I lost my objective, and I wanted to just be light and let people know that whether you don’t feel like you have a goal, whether you’re just trying to figure it out, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel’.

“I’m not made out of steel”, he goes on to assert in the chorus. The rest sounds a little…hollow?

If you were waiting for a big Bieber ballad, this is your moment. Again, playing it cool.

“I guess Eminem is kind of a pop star”. Don’t accept Bieber’s apologies – they are probably not genuine – but enjoy the spectacle.

Bieber may never be the King of Pop, but he is definitely the King of Right Now. The song was featured on Skrillex and Diplo’s Jack Ü album. “Look at all the children we can change”. “Coming up under him was really special”. Despite the limp lyrics this track is a certified banger featuring one of Skrillex’s densest drops on the album.

On the latter, the singer throws jabs at an ex: “My momma don’t like you, but she likes everyone”.

In case you didn’t know – and if not, how dare you? The title song comes next, and in this song Justin Bieber’s breathy top line glows against the backdrop of a meandering piano melody.
