Brazilian Wendell Lira, 27, won Fifa’s Puskas award in January, beating Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez.

However, just six months after winning that trophy in Zurich, Lira has announced his shock retirement from professional football at the age of just 27.

While a future career playing video games may not sound the most stable way to make a living, Lira has a strong track record when it comes to the Federation Internationale de Football Association series.

Lira said his repeated injury problems contributed to his decision to retire.

“I define my life in two dreams – one possible and another nearly impossible”, he is quoted as saying in Globo Esporte.

But Lira now plans to set up a YouTube channel playing EA Sports game Federation Internationale de Football Association.

Brazilian Wendell Lira said he lost his desire to play after being released by Brazilian Serie B club Vila Nova in May. I lived 15 years in football, and had good times and bad. “It’s something emotional, and real that I can identify with and I want to show people things that they never imagined”. “Seriously, I’ve always seen videogames as something important. In fact, God has given me the opportunity to have this job as a follow-up in my life, being happy and continuing with that smile”.

You may not be instantly familiar with Wendell Lira’s name but there’s a decent chance you’re familiar with his handiwork. Up until last year, his Federation Internationale de Football Association career saw him battle mostly domestic opponents, but that changed when he defeated the last year’s Federation Internationale de Football Association world champion Abdulaziz Alshehri in an exhibition game in November 2015.
