The IPC went further than the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which stopped short of a blanket ban on Russia at the Rio Olympics that ended on Sunday and left the decision instead in the hands of international sports federations.

“The decision to disqualify our Paralympians is outside law, morality and outside humanity”, Putin told reporters at an award ceremony for Russian Olympians at the Kremlin.

26 de agosto de 2016, 15:51Moscow, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) The Russian Paralympic Committee filed today an appeal with the Swiss Federal Court due to a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) that prevents the participation of Russian athletes in the Rio de Janeiro Games.

Putin also attacked what he claimed was the political decision to stop many Russian athletes from competing at the Olympics.

“I want to say to our Paralympians: of course, we will support you”, he explained. The entire Russian Paralympic team have been barred over the same allegations. “We know how hard it was for our athletes in Rio”.

The team members, as announced by the IPC, are Ibrahim al Hussein, a refugee from Syria living in Greece, who will swim in the 50-m and 100-meter freestyle events; and Shahrad Nasajpour, an Iranian who was granted asylum in the United States and who will compete in discus.

The Russian national team finished fourth place at the Rio Olympics with 19 gold, 18 silver and 19 bronze medals.

Earlier, Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko appeared to cast doubt on the achievements of second-placed Britain, suggesting it had won medals in Rio thanks to its lobbying power.
