Putin: ‘Don’t worry, be happy’ as Trump ditches climate deal

After the USA withdrawal from the Paris deal sparked pledges of money and solidarity, Figueres said via Twitter on Friday, “Thank you Trump”.

The landmark agreement succeeded where past attempts failed because it allowed each country to set its own emission reduction targets and adopt its own strategies for reaching them.

The over-the-top critical reaction to this unremarkable event confirms what many Americans, and Canadians, believe.

While the executive branch of the USA government speaks on behalf of our nation in matters of foreign affairs, it does not determine many aspects of whether and how the United States takes action on climate change. “The rest of the world wanted to tell us how to do it and we’re saying we will do it, but we will do it under our terms”.
