Worldwide leaders are urging both sides to avoid escalation, but Russian Federation says it is still awaiting a reasonable explanation for the incident.

In a speech broadcast live on Turkish television, Mr Erdogan said he may attempt to arrange a meeting with Mr Putin at next week’s global climate summit in France. As Russia is important for Turkey, Turkey is important for Russia.

Mr Putin also said that America – an ally of Turkey on Syria – had known the flight path of the downed Russian jet.

Russian and French presidents on Thursday agreed to step up cooperation in fight against terrorism, while promising that the incident like the recent downing of Russian fighter jet near the Turkey-Syria border should never happen again.

Russian Federation has since restricted tourist travel, left Turkish trucks stranded at the border, confiscated large quantities of Turkish food imports and started preparing a raft of broader economic sanctions.

He told CNN Russia, not Turkey, should be the one to apologise for the incident. He warned Russian Federation “not to play with fire” in reacting to the downing of the plane, adding: “We really attach a lot of importance to our relations with Russian Federation, and we don’t want our relations to suffer in any way”. “It gives an impression that the Turkish leadership is deliberately driving Russian-Turkish relations into a deadlock, and we regret that”.

Me Lavrov said Turkey had “crossed the line”.

Turkey has recently shot down the Russian Su-24 bomber after it flew into its airspace for 17 seconds despite repeated warnings.

Officials have said Russian Federation can’t be seen as a team player as long as it backs Syrian President Bashar Assad by attacking moderate Syrian rebels.

“Or else any interaction with anyone or any coalition with any party would not be needed by Russian Federation”, said Putin.

Aside from directly targeting ISIS, France will also increase its support to rebels battling the extremist group on the ground in Syria, Hollande said.
