The Syrian General command, however, charged that the purported USA -led strike in the al-Tharda Mountains around the Deir El-Zour airport in eastern Syria “paved the way for Islamic State terrorists to attack the position and take control of it”.

The Pentagon said it had halted an airstrike over Syria after Russian Federation and the Syrian Government accused U.S. warplanes of responsibility for killing at least 62 Syrian soldiers.

Russian Federation called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, which convened Saturday evening to discuss the air raid. The Syrian military said the airstrikes enabled an IS advance on a hill overlooking the air base.
MOSCOW, Sept 17 The Russian Defence Ministry said on Saturday that US -led coalition planes had bombed Syrian troops fighting Islamic State militants near the airport in Deir al-Zor, killing 62 soldiers and wounding about 100 more.
If the current ceasefire holds until Monday the U.S. and Russian Federation will begin co-ordinated action against the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham group and ISIS. Russian Federation has been waging a year-old air campaign on behalf of Assad’s forces and closely coordinates with them.
Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government views all those fighting against it as “terrorists”, and has long accused the US and other rebel supporters of backing extremists.
A key plank of the truce deal was the delivery of aid to areas including Aleppo, where an estimated 250,000 people in rebel-held areas of the city are living under the regime siege. It includes a nationwide truce that started at sundown on Monday, improved humanitarian aid access and joint military targeting of banned Islamist groups.

“They, in their typical way, came up with a completely different thing, which is trying to interpret and reinterpret the agreement”, Churkin said, referring to USA officials.

Senior U.N. officials have accused the government of failing to provide letters to allow convoys to reach other besieged areas in Syria. She then criticized Russian Federation for calling the emergency session, saying Moscow was “grandstanding” on the issue, considering its defense of Syrian regime forces despite “systematic” atrocities during that country’s ongoing civil war. “But this is a very unsafe route”.
