Q&A with NC State swimmer and Olympic gold medalist Ryan Held
Michael Phelps won his 19th gold medal on Sunday night at the Olympics in the 4x100m freestyle relay event.

It turns out Phelps got the better of le Clos this time, finishing second in his heat to Hungary’s Tamás Kenderesi and more than a full second ahead of le Clos, who came in third. Michael brings like a certain confidence in the way he holds himself – he and Nathan (Adrian). Phelps saw what was happening and offered a supportive hand around Held’s neck. “I’m going to have an educated approach to it”.
“Nothing”, Phelps replied. “I was trying to not even look at him”.
“I’ve heard the national anthem thousands of times before, but there was something different about this one”, he told the Charlotte Observer. Either swimmer is capable of taking gold.

Adrian smiled as he comforted his younger teammates.
It’s pretty easy to do and some people say it makes a huge difference. “I had to fight back some tears myself”.
The mark of an Olympic athlete, at least at Rio 2016, seems to be a scattering of perfectly round bruises.
RIO DE JANEIRO – Vintage Michael Phelps remains a thing of beauty.
The U.S. women’s water polo team is the first in history to own simultaneous Olympic, World, World Cup and World League titles since women’s water polo’s inception at the 2000 Sydney Games.
“I guess I got to sleep at 3 a.m. and I was on an 11 a.m. bus”. “I had a herniated disc and it just basically separates the skin from the muscle under it so that there’s more fluid- more oxygen more nutrients to that area so that it heals faster”.
Vietnam’s Kim Tuan Thach had stood below Om on the podium five times and was expected to take the bronze medal, but he failed with all three clean and jerk attempts.
“It’s good to see the emotion of those young guys”.
In his first appearance of these Summer Games, Phelps showed he is still capable of the kind of jaw-dropping, did-he-really-just-do-that? performances that already made him the most decorated Olympic athlete of them all.

“Holy cow, it’s unreal, unbelievable”, he said.
