Qandeel Baloch murder: Model’s brother arrested, confesses killing her for ‘honour’

She became embroiled in scandal earlier this month when she posted pictures taken with Mufti Abdul Qavi, a prominent cleric, in a Karachi hotel room during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Baloch was found dead on Saturday at her family home in the central city of Multan.
Internet celebrity Qandeel Baloch was strangulated to death by her brother named Waseem in Multan on Saturday.
Qandeel was dubbed Pakistan’s Kim Kardashian for her provocative photos.
Local police chief Azhar Akram said Waseem had killed her by covering her mouth and nose.
It has been told that Qandeel’s brothers were furious because of their sister’s involvement in “notorious” and “shameful” activities bringing bad name to their family and repute.
In his police complaint, Qandeel’s father said Waseem killed her as he was against her working in showbiz.
Responding to questions at a press conference arranged by police officials, Wasim said that “Yes of course, I strangled her”.
Hundreds of women in Pakistan die in “honor killings” each year-often at the hands of family members as a form of punishment for violating traditional values, Reuters reported.
According to the Associated Press, almost 1,000 women are killed in Pakistan by relatives each year for violating conservative norms on love and marriage.
The social media star, who has been dubbed the nation’s Kim Kardashian, posted one last message to her almost 750,000 followers on Facebook on Monday, July 4.

The Express Tribune reports that Baloch’s brothers were upset over her modeling career, adding that Azeem was allegedly threatening her over her social media presence. “As a women we must stand up for each other”.
