QB Hill will return to play at BYU in 2016

Taysom Hill is giving it one more year with BYU. Hill had not made any comments about his options until Tuesday’s tweet.

Hill also suffered season-ending injuries in 2012 (knee) and 2014 (broken leg, knee).

Hill is a great runner and ran for 1,344 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2013 and I think he’ll be used in situations where his feet, not his arm, will be his greatest asset for the team.

A native of Pocatello, Idaho, Hill was the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior at Highland High and came to BYU with much promise.

Just more than a week after National Signing Day, BYU added another quarterback to the stable.

Former BYU Heisman victor and national champion, Ty Detmer was hired to be the team’s offensive coordinator on Sitake’s staff after Bronco Mendenhall left to take the Virginia job. Given the success of Tanner Mangum – who replaced Hill after he suffered a season-ending foot injury in last year’s opener and went on to earn multiple all-freshman accolades – many believed that’s what would happen.

Hill is the BYU career leader in quarterback rushing yards with 2,212 and 24 touchdowns while passing for 4,606 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Then, tragedy. While running for his second score, Hill pulled up and hobbled into the locker room.

Last year’s Lisfranc fracture created an opportunity for Mangum, who passed for 3,377 yards and 23 touchdowns as a “freshman”. Hill is a no-brainer starter for BYU, even with Mangum around, but his exact fantasy value is hard to pinpoint due to his extreme durability questions.
