QB Nick Foles agrees to deal with Chiefs, source says
Chiefs coach Andy Reid was asked this afternoon what the Foles signing says about the other quarterbacks – Tyler Bray, Aaron Murray and Kevin Hogan – and he pointed to Foles’ experience.

It’s an interesting decision for both Foles and the Chiefs.
After a poor season previous year in St. Louis with the Rams, in which he lost the starting job, Foles sees Kansas City as a place where he can re-evaluate where he is in his career. We have a great stable of guys at that position. That would also have been true in Dallas and Minnesota, but with the Cowboys at least, the opportunity is a little more real because of the fragile nature of starting quarterback Tony Romo’s health. Instead, Boykin went undrafted and signed with Seattle in May.
Smith is 30-16 as a starter for the Chiefs and 49-20-1 in his past five seasons, including two with the 49ers.
Foles offers experience in spades should Smith go down or get off to a terrible start to the season. Last season, Smith had two very bad games-one against the league’s best defense, Denver-but was otherwise consistently above-average nearly every single week. Next thing we heard the Chiefs had a need for a good backup quarterback and signed Foles to fill the role’.
According to a report by ESPN, Foles said yes to a deal which will earn him $1.75 million plus incentives in the 2016 season. Foles had a lot of success in 2013 with the Eagles, making the Pro Bowl, but has since struggled and is looking for a new start.
Foles ended up seeking another change of scenery after just one year with the Rams, who chose quarterback Jared Goff with the first pick in the National Football League draft.
Foles was a third-round pick by the Eagles in 2012. He is allowed to practice with the team and play in the Patriots’ preseason games but will miss the first four regular-season games.
Foles will be behind Alex Smith on the depth chart. You have to wonder if Nick is satisfied with holding a clipboard and cheering on the starting QB, or if really wants to be a starting quarterback but has no other options but wait for an injury to get his chance.
Years later, Big Red turns to Foles once again in Kansas City.
