Ayad has now been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder and he will appear in court via videolink.
The man accused of murdered a British backpacker at an Australian hostel may have been obsessed with her and launched his attack after taking cannabis, police have said.
A Frenchman charged with murdering a British woman in Australia had his case adjourned until October on Friday, as the father of a man wounded in the incident arrived from Britain to be with his son.
Another British backpacker, Chris Porter, is being treated for wounds to the ankles and an Australian worker at the hostel, Grant Schulz, has been discharged after being stabbed in the leg.
Rohweder said: “When we transported the suspect from the Townsville hospital to the Townsville police station, the suspect behaved in an extremely violent manner which necessitated police stopping the motor vehicle and attempting to restrain him”.
Ayad is due to appear before a court via video link tomorrow morning.
“There is absolutely no indication of any form of radicalization or any political motive in this matter”, he said.
“However, initial inquiries indicate that comments which may be construed as of an extremist nature were made by the alleged offender”, Queensland police service Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski told journalists.
“Certainly from Mia’s point of view, there was no romantic connection”, he said.
Mr Jackson tried to save Ms Ayliffe-Chung after she was stabbed, police said.
Supt Ray Rohweder said mental health elements were also being considered.
It is believed that the suspect had been at Home Hill for around a month and Ayliffe-Chung for a couple of days.
It has emerged Mr Jackson rushed Miss Ayliffe-Chung into a bathroom at Shelleys Backpackers in Home Hill, south of Townsville, in an unsuccessful bid to save her from her attacker.
Mia’s family paid tribute to the “amazing young woman with an adventurous spirit”.
“She was an outstanding friend to many, and dearly loved by the children of our community”.
Despite this, far-right senator Pauline Hanson used the murder to reissue her call for a temporary ban on all Muslim immigration to Australia. She would always treat others with dignity, respect and kindness. It felt as though she was reminding us all of the beauty and possibilities we each have and that we should live life to the full.

“Mia was a bubbly student who was energetic, caring and who immersed herself in life, enriching the school environment she contributed to”, said Paul Lovatt, head of pastoral care at Anthony Gell School in the town of Wirksworth.
