Hasselbaink has enjoyed a successful 12 months at the Pirelli Stadium, during which Burton have been promoted from League Two as champions.

Hasselbaink appears to be in pole position, having impressed since taking charge of the Brewers in November of previous year.

But the former Chelsea striker’s appointment could even be announced before kick-off if negotiations are concluded swiftly.

Burton, currently at the top of League One after promotion under Hasselbaink last season, are reported by the BBC to have accepted an approach for their popular manager, with the Dutchman now discussing personal terms with the London club.

Ramsey was relieved of his duties less than four weeks ago after struggling to turn QPR’s form around in the Championship after being relegated as the bottom-placed team in the Premier League last season.

After 20 matches the club have picked up 41 points, leaving them two points clear of Coventry City at the top of the table; Hasselbaink has won 33 of his 54 matches in total.

Hasselbaink said on Tuesday night: “I can’t stop people speculating”.

They play at Reading on Thursday night.
