Quake Champions finally gets a gameplay trailer

The arena-style FPS was first announced at E3, where there was a pretty strong emphasis on woo-ing the PC crowd with talk of uncapped frame-rates and 120hz support and the like.

In fact, id Software’s own developers couldn’t improve on it with Quake IV. From what the trailer has shown and what Bethesda has stated, it seems that this will be a traditional arena shooter with a blend of new and old characters. What hasn’t changed is the frenetic fast-paced rocket-jumping gameplay. “That’s how you get weapons in a Quake game”. Shotguns, assault rifles, lightning guns, and rocket launchers fire at high-speeds-and yes, there are rocket jumps. In other words, blink and you’re dead.

Willits also surprised the crowd with the announcement of the first public exhibition match of Quake Champions, to be held live on stage during the QuakeCon Finals Party on Saturday night.

Towards the end of the show we also found out about id’s plans for the beta for Quake Champions, which is due to take place next year (when exactly we’re not sure).
