A 5.1-magnitude natural disaster struck north of the Bay Area on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quakes were within a 15,000 square mile area of interest identified earlier in the year by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

A 2.7 quake was also reported in the area. That quake hit at around 8:08 p.m. about 5.6 miles northeast of Upper Lake.

Aftershocks measuring magnitude 2.7 and 3 were reported at 8:08 p.m. and 8:24 p.m., respectively, according to the USGS. Residents as far away as Healdsburg, Santa Rosa and Napa reported feeling the shaker. “I actually heard the quake coming”, Ukiah resident Bailey Penzotti said. They reported shaking, but nothing falling off of walls or any damage as far as they knew.

Firefighters were battling a small wildfire nearby.

Under certain conditions, a temblor of that size is capable of causing considerable damage.
