An assistant examined evening gowns at the “Fashioning a Reign: 90 Years of Style from The Queen’s Wardrobe” exhibition inside Buckingham Palace in London on Thursday.
“It’s very much a dialogue”, curator Caroline de Guitaut told WWD, adding that she wanted the show to reflect the balance the queen has always sought between creating her own style, and ensuring the clothes do not get in the way of her work.
The collection will span ten decades and will feature outfits worn by HRH throughout her life, including her christening gown from 1926 to the green outfit she wore at this year’s Trooping the Colour.
The exhibition will showcase an array of couturier Norman Hartnell dresses, including her wedding gown and coronation dress on display for the first time.
At the age of 90, with 64 of reining years under her belt, we can be pretty certain that Queen Elizabeth II has amassed a pretty stellar couture collection.
De Guitaut said the dresses reflected the multi-faceted role the Queen plays as sovereign not only of Britain but also of the Commonwealth states, as well as being commander-in-chief of the British army.
