The remains of Sierra Shields were found washed up on the shoreline of Rikers Island this week, bringing to an end the eight-month search for the missing Astoria flight attendant, police said Friday. The Medical Examiner will determine her cause of death.
Shields was last seen leaving LaGuardia Airport on foot on January 14, 2016.
Relatives had told police that she had called a suicide hotline shortly before her disappearance. Shields reportedly quit her job and walked out, leaving her belongings behind.
She had left her cellphone and wallet at home, her father told People.
Later, surveillance footage shows her exiting an airport terminal before starting her shift, they said. A Facebook page set up for her posted regular pleas for help in finding her.

Her union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters’ Airline Division, had offered $10,000 for information on her whereabouts.
