Questions abound at QB as Notre Dame prepares for Texas

The four Notre Dame players arrested in Fulton County on August 19 will be available to play Sunday night when the Fighting Irish open the season at Texas, head coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday.

“It’s not really an issue for us right now”. Its not something that weve contemplated, ” he said.

Interesting part of Sunday’s game is that neither the Notre Dame nor Texas have announced their starting quarterback.

Kelly said last season he felt a two-quarterback system was not a path to failure, whereas much coaches follow the football mantra that if you “have two quarterbacks, you have none”.

“As it stands right now, they’re on the depth chart because they’re available to play as we speak and on Saturday”, Kelly said. I can’t help them with that.

“So there will probably be times where, man, that probably doesn’t feel good for his flow or tempo”. That probably doesnt work best for him. But what were trying to counter is the game within the game, and that is how Texas is trying to defend what were doing offensively.”. Kizer replaced Zaire in the 2015 opener and helped the Irish to a 10-3 record last season.

While Kelly said last week the pair had “embraced knowing that both of them will play” he acknowledged Tuesday that they still dont like the idea of sharing the position.

“They would like to be the guy, but they want to win, and they’ll do whatever is necessary to win and find a way to win the game”, Kelly said.

Kelly says he’s not necessarily looking for one quarterback to emerge as the starter over the other.

“If they both play dynamically and feed off each other, my ideal situation would be I’m playing them both because they’re both playmakers”, Kelly said.

You might think that experience should be the way the Longhorns should go to break out of their seven-loss slump, but if they start the quarterback with experience they are headed for another seven-loss season. “But we’re going to give it a shot”. The firearm “changed the whole situation”, regarding the ultimate decision to cut ties with Redfield, Kelly said. He said the school could still discipline the players, but there is no deadline for such a move.

Kelly also said he did not consider suspending the four players charged with possession of marijuana since it was the first offense for all four and said the drug testing policy for the team is meant to be both educational and punitive.

“We’re not that team anymore”, Strong said, referring to the 2015 squad.

Following Max Redfield’s dismissal from the team, sixth-year transfer student Avery Sebastian will get the start at free safety over freshman Devin Studstill. Mack Brown failed to recruit Johnny Manziel as a quarterback (he offered him a spot to play as a safety) we saw how Manziel played at rival Texas A&M.

“We think that’s appropriate”.

“That’s what caused the dismissal”.

“Chuck Noll made it famous with his football team with the Steelers, but that’s true with this team”, Kelly said. Even if they go with a freshman at quarterback, Texas will nearly assuredly improve upon both those numbers this season. Attorneys for Williams and White filed motions to waive initial hearings.
