Forensic officers and have still not identified the remains found in the house and police in Benicia and El Dorado are refusing to link the missing people to the discovery.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Monday confirming that investigators found remains of two bodies in the burned down house. While searching the area, it was determined that a residence had burned.
The sheriff’s department released a statement saying they have found the charred remains of two people and that the coroner was still working to identify who they are and how they died.
Adam Buchanan, Molly McAfee, and their son Gavin, disappeared after a fire destroyed their cabin, located on the 4600 block of Highway 193 in Garden Valley, on September 13. Sheriff’s Sgt. Todd Hammitt said there were no suspects in the case and no arrests.
However, the identification of the bodies were not immediately known. “The fire was so intense and it came to a point where there is really nothing identifiable there”, said Steve Gizzi, the Buchanan family attrney.
Benicia police Lt. Mike Greene said his officers “were not investigating anything” and referred inquiries to El Dorado County.
He said police have not been able to tell him anything and said that the remaining members of the family are co-operating with authorities. Two days later, a fire swept through the small structure and destroyed it, along with 10 acres of surrounding property.

The station reports that investigators recently searched the family home and Buchanan’s office, removing computers. They’ve been pretty tight-lipped.
