Quick, Team USA fall to Team Europe in WCOH Opener

A flair flop is a comedic move in pro wrestling where a guy takes a HUGE move that looks like it’d knock you out, then you get up, take a few steps.and then fall flat on your face, apparently letting the injury sink in. And man-oh-man did it look embarrassing.

“We didn’t come here to have one nice game, we came here to compete and to be around next weekend”.

Not this period they didn’t.

On the ice, Europe looked like a team in the purest sense of the word.

Team USA coach John Tortorella could do little more than stare down the bench in disbelief. It was breathtaking to watch. Dallas got a scare when forward Tyler Seguin injured his foot in an exhibition game, but it’s not considered serious. Team USA thought they could get back in with a goal that apparently got in off of a shoulder.and it got called back. Division rivals from the United States couldn’t say the same earlier in the day, dropping a 3-0 afternoon affair to Team Europe. “We didn’t do any unnecessary mistakes or give them a whole lot of freebies and make them come through us and try to do something special to get to our net”.

The fun part of these tournaments is that every game matters, but the flipside of that is you can be pretty screwed if you lose the first game to a team that isn’t the best team in your group.

Team Europe, a roster made up of players representing eight different countries, scored on their first shot when Slovakian Marian Gaborik took a ideal feed from Denmark’s Frans Nielsen and redirected it past USA goalie Jonathan Quick. “We’ve put ourselves in the spot where we’re chasing the tournament”.

Much like the previous game, the favorite started slow.

Connor McDavid’s first summer as an National Hockey League star came to an early close, but fans who are eager to catch their next glimpse of the Edmonton Oilers phenom aren’t complaining.

The Czechs couldn’t maintain their early pace and started to fade after the midway point of the first period. And they did this with aplomb.

Some are doubtful of the squad, seeing as they don’t have the experience and depth of worldwide superpowers like Canada.

It would be one of the only times Neuvirth would get the better of the Pittsburgh Penguins superstar, who seemed to be at an entirely different level from the rest of the players on the ice, a heady feat when you consider these were the sports elite he was playing both with and against. The NHL’s leading goal-scorer from the back-end last season fired a blast that Marchand tipped past Neuvirth.

Scratched in Europe’s 3-0 win over the United States.

You want to add motivational fuel to an already blazing fire? He did all of his damage in the opening 20 minutes.

In the evening game, the favored Canadians – featuring Hawks center Jonathan Toews – will take on the Czechs. The 29-year-old was square to pucks and limited rebounds, his shutout preserved late in the second period when Roman Cervenka rung a shot off the crossbar.

Jaroslav Halak made 35 saves and Marian Gaborik, Leon Draisaitl and Pierre Edouard-Bellemare each scored as Europe recorded a convincing victory at Air Canada Centre.

It was kinda pointless, is what I’m saying. Canada meanwhile, goes against Team USA on Tuesday.

David Backes for Team USA played a mere 6 minutes, his line was extremely limtied as the US basically spent the entire game on the defending side of things or trying their damnedest to score, so let’s not worry about how he’s doing.
