Hageman was a second-round pick by the Falcons in the 2014 National Football League draft and has been active in all 32 games for the team in his career before being scratched Sunday. There was a great deal of anticipation for the effectiveness of Hageman this year. He has a combined two sacks in his first two seasons. Hageman was not known to be injured, which naturally generated a great deal of confusion and curiosity. However, the AJC reports the domestic violence case did not affect the decision to deactivate Hageman on Sunday.
Quinn said he did not play Hageman because defensive tackle Courtney Upshaw was a better fit against the Bucs offense.
According to the DeKalb County police report obtained by The Associated Press, the charges of battery, cruelty to children and interfering with calls for emergency assistance developed from an incident on March 21 at the home of Hageman’s girlfriend, Janeal Jefferies.
A baseline suspension of six games without pay for violations involving assault, battery, domestic violence, dating violence, child abuse, other forms of family violence, or sexual assault, with consideration given to possible mitigating or aggravating circumstances.
