Raazi celeb review: B- towners laud Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal starrer

Raazi is utterly serious in its treatement of the idea of a weaponised Kashmiri woman who offers her body in the service of her nation. Syed may be a staunch Pakistani army officer, protective about his country, but that doesn’t stop him from embracing his Indian daughter-in-law. He has married a Sikh woman Teji (Soni Razdan), and he is a third generation soldier.

According to BollywoodLife. “Alia Bhatt is the soul of Raazi and there are no two ways about it”. And intelligence reports suggest something diabolical brewing against India. Hidayat Khan (Rajit Kapur), a Kashmiri trader, often travels to Pakistan on the pretext of business. But Sehmat explains she is willing – and why. He is brilliant as Khalid Mir.

The marriage is consummated much later. With multiple shades to her character of a daughter, wife and a spy, Alia’s Sehmat has been commissioned with the task of sourcing information from the Pakistani army and transferring it to Indian Forces. The film released on May 11.

Considerable time is devoted to heighten the drama and thrill that comes from Sehmat’s foes, predominantly the suspicious family servant, (Arif Zakaria) and how she deals with them when in dire straits.

And so come in the layers. The film works its way towards a grey area to expose the darkness of war without being too didactic, overly patriotic or unjustly vilifying the other, which is utterly relieving considering the film’s trailer hinted otherwise. Reportedly, a vital clue that she passed on helped the Indian Navy save INS Viraat from being destroyed. Rights and wrongs change depending on whom you are fighting for and against. She manages to strike an adequate balance between realism and thrill. The final escape seems a shade credible, but how did the commanding officer who trained her reach Pakistan so easily? That way, actors also get a chance to explore their abilities. The film is a welcome relief to our senses. The rest of Raazi is all about what happens next. The climax of the film is quite tremendous and will be very emotional. Most of the first half takes time to build up the story and the lead characters. She lets us take sides. Alia, Vicky and Meghna Gulzar were seen posing together for the paparazzi. They are so flawless that I got every song within five hours. The film has been helmed by Meghna Gulzar who previously directed critically acclaimed film Talvar. Nevertheless, it must be said that there is no lasting quality in the songs. Even the background music is a waste.

Sehmat’s father is a college friend of her father-in-law, Brigadier Syed (Shishir Sharma).

In this special feature, we will look at five most incredible performances of Alia Bhatt that could label her the best actress of her generation, ranked from the best to, well, less best. To portray the fear of getting killed all the time without overdoing it is what she has achieved. She ups the projects by being associated with it and Raazi is definitely one of the best films of 2018 so far. His expressions are fantastic – here is another internal explosion of strong sentiments. Yet subtly and surely, the message is conveyed – it will leave you with a tinge of pride and patriotism and yet weigh in on the futility of war.
