Race-ready Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport confirmed, November debut

Using the lightweight Cayman GT4 as the basis, Porsche Motorsport has developed a near-standard racing version.

The Cayman GT4 Clubsport will be sold through Porsche’s motorsport business at Weissach or the corresponding importer in the United States.

The 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 is a track-ready tool straight from the showroom floor, but that didn’t stop Porsche from taking the GT4 a step further and turning it into the track-only GT4-based race vehicle that will be ready to compete on the world stage. It features a stripped out cabin alongside a proper bucket seat for the driver, welded in roll cage and a six-point harness.

The Cayman GT4 Clubsport celebrates its world premiere at the Los Angeles Motor Show on 18 November.

Porsche’s current entry-level customer race auto is the 911 GT3 Cup, but the German sports vehicle marque is about to undercut this with a new GT4-spec racer based on the recently revealed Cayman GT4.

The suspension is borrowed from the 911 GT3 Cup and the brakes are a dedicated racing setup with steel discs measuring 380 millimeters in diameter at all corners. Following its debut, the Cayman Clubsport will be eligible for a number of racing series across the globe, along with a handful of North American championships – including the Pirelli World Challenge, which races at Ontario’s Canadian Tire Motorsport Park – pending homologation.

Power still comes from a mid-mounted 3.8-liter flat-six engine pulled from the Porsche 991.1 Carrera S, but plenty of changes have been made to the Cayman’s chassis to differentiate it from the roadgoing coupe. Other markets will have to order the vehicle from Porsche Motorsport.
