Rachel McAdams enjoys boxing sessions on movie set
Despite the countless hours of training, Gyllenhaal is a bit annoyed that everyone is caught up on his character’s physique and not his character’s psyche. “I got hit pretty hard”, he said. McAdams said in an interview recently that after being diverted to a shady hotel in Costa Rica while there on vacation several years ago, she slept with a knife to feel safe.

In director Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming boxing drama Southpaw, Jake Gyllenhaal plays the title lefty fighter named Billy Hope, who’s trying to find redemption in the ring after his life falls apart. “I like action. I like being thrust into that”, she added.
And despite his initial nerves, Jake told Access Hollywood: ‘I’m very proud of it. I’m proud of the fact that it’s a movie that seems like a boxing film, but really is a family movie about the relationship between a father and a daughter, which moves me so much. However, Gyllenhaal reveals that he was already fully motivated to embrace the workouts, due to a combination of fear and sheer bloody-mindedness. “We improved a lot, and she would make choices, I would just follow her in an improv, and that’s the dynamic”.
Together, they both committed to the tough training and diet regime which meant that they were in the gym twice a day, every day, but in the end Gyllenhaal complete an unbelievable transformation.
