What’s happening now is a ridge of high pressure has just spread over nearly the entire United States. Combined with high humidity, heat indices are forecast to soar – the highest indices are predicted to be felt across the Corn Belt and Midwest, topping 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 Celsius).

Forecasts show that the hot weather will continue through Saturday.

The day is expected to be humid, but sunny and mostly clear. We will begin to dry out by Tuesday but we will still be looking at daytime highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s. North winds around 5 miles per hour in the morning becoming northeast in the afternoon.

The blaze is being fought be some 300 firefighters, a helicopter and two fixed-wing aircraft.

The dome is expected to hit on Friday with temperatures reaching a high of 84 degrees. NY is expected to see a high of 97 degrees Fahrenheit on Saturday, according to Weather.com. Take extra precautions outdoors, stay well hydrated, and avoid strenuous activities in the afternoon.

Pets can suffer from dehydration, heat stroke and sunburn too, and heat illness in pets can lead to confusion, seizures or even death.

Be sure to drink plenty of water, stay indoors when possible, and wear light clothing.

A new California law being considered would make it legal to smash a vehicle window in order to rescue an animal suffering from the heat.

The so-called heat dome is said to intensify the already scorching July summer weather in the country.
