I might be wrong, but it looks like we’ll soon have everything in its right place once again, as teaser videos and a new song creep online.

If Beyoncé is pop music’s surprise-release avatar of empowerment, Radiohead is its messenger of realism and dread as seen and heard in the band’s new video and accompanying single, “Burn the Witch”.

Chris Pizzello/AP Radiohead have left their fans high and dry, erasing all digital traces of the band’s existence as rumors swirl regarding their ninth studio album. Then, fans in the United Kingdom received cryptic pamphlets with “BURN THE WITCH” written on them.

Radiohead released Spectre – a song they wrote for the last James Bond film but which was rejected in favour of Sam Smith’s Writing’s On The Wall – as a free download on December 25 previous year.

The promise of a long-awaited new release from the group – hailed as one of the great modern rock acts – prompted a buzz among the group’s famously adoring fans.

Radiohead posts a few claymation videos to its Instagram account. This comes after artist and collaborator Stanley Donwood claims that while it may not be finished yet, Radiohead’s new album is “a work of art”. The leaflet reportedly reads, “Sing a song of sixpence that goes / Burn the Witch / We know where you live”.

However, on Tuesday (May 3), the band premiered their new track with a video posted to Youtube, with the song later becoming available on streaming platforms like Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal. Also linked was the new Radiohead website dubbed W.A.S.T.E. or Wasteheadquarters.com, which includes info to tour dates beginning May 20 in Amsterdam.

“Radiohead curiously formed their own company Dawn Chorus LLP – just as they did prior to the release of In Rainbows and The King Of Limbs”.
