Radiologists on strike; ultrasound, MRI centres closed in Agra

Scores of radiologists will hold a protest at the Jantar Mantar on Thursday to press for their demand to amend a legislation that “equates” even minor clerical mistakes committed during their jobs to sex determination. “And, several radiologists have faced harassment and been victimised”, he claimed. “Other radiological modalities will continue as usual”. He said the healthcare in India is primarily dependent upon smalland medium size private medical set ups since the governmenthealthcare facilities were grossly inadequate. Despite that, if the government officials continue to harass honest Radiologists, then Radiologists have no option but to stop practicing.

Mumbai: More than 20,000 radiologists across the country are on the warpath and have chose to go on an indefinite strike from Thursday (September 1) to protest against the act that is being used to harass doctors even for minor clerical errors.

Subsequently from September 2, 2016 there would be indefinite stoppage of all Ultra-sonography throughout the country till solution of our problems and justice is served.

The strike will severely affect radiology services like ultrasonography and other scan procedures.

The Telangana chapter of IRIA demands that any clerical error in filling up the form or not wearing an apron or not keeping the handbook on PC&PNDT Act be not construed as sex determination and viewed as a criminal offence. It demanded that punishment should be graded.

There should standardize implementation of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act throughout the country. “Cases were filed for clerical errors which is wrong”. The gazette notification restricting radiologists from visiting more than two ultrasound centres in a district and intimation of change of radiologist and equipment one month in advance should be denotified or suitably amended, the release said.
